PRODUCER & ENGINEER
When I was about 14 I got my first laptop, an HP. The first thing I did was download the demo version of FL 11 because at that time, I didn’t have any money…. I just knew I wanted to create. Growing up on the South, East, AND West side of Chicago, I realized that I needed to find something to help me express my creative side in a positive way, instead of letting my environment express itself to me. In other words, seeing all of the violence and stuff that didn’t grab my attention as much as music did. During high school I discovered my love for dance and auditioned for the Dance Conservatory at ChiArts. To my surprise, I got in…but music still had my heart.
Once I graduated from ChiArts, I thought that dance was going to be a great avenue toward my career. However, I noticed that I wasn’t as happy as I used to be since I didn’t have enough time for both dance and music. Even after having the opportunity to dance with some great companies like:
Muntu African Dance, Deeply Rooted, and Ballet Chicago, I realized I had to make a sacrifice. I eventually saw an ad for a school called SAE and applied not knowing I was going to meet the same people that would be a part of an amazing team, which I couldn’t be more happy to work with.
Before I applied, the arrogant Leo in me didn’t believe that I needed to go to school for something that I’ve been doing since I was a kid, but I had to humble myself. In the end, I decided to go back to school because it was the missing puzzle piece I needed to visualize my career path. To be in a place with those who share the same ambitions as me was just what I needed to truly see my purpose. Music has always been present in my life - from watching my uncle and his friends record music in his closet, to my big brother helping me song structure…or tell me what “quantizing” is. All of the decisions I have made to this day have led me to my calling and becoming a member of Blue Door Studios.
